We love amika!

Out of all of the fantastic companies whose products we carry, none are as bold and different as amika! Just looking at their site or at the design on their bottles tells you everything you need to know. And, of course, since we carry them you know they’re 100% sustainable! So that’s why we’re spotlighting amika today.

amika is professional hair care & tools for a “lifestyle of self-expression and hair rebellion against conformity and the mundane.” Founded by industry outsiders in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2007, they’re the antithesis of a typical beauty brand. Instead of purveying unattainable perfection, they believe in an idiosyncratic and totally individual version of beauty. The result is a culture of inclusion and positivity, all while delivering fun and a sunny disposition from looking at their packaging.

amika stands for experimentation over perfection, fun over elite, individuality over conformity, collaboration over ego, and hair over clothes. They have never and will ever conduct animal testing. amika describes their products like a good friend – straightforward, dependable, and fun to spend time with. All of their hair care and styling products include a “superfruit” called Sea Buckthorn Berry.

The company is always on a quest for new technologies and ingredients to deliver high-performing products. They are vegetarian-friendly, cruelty-free, and free from sulfates, MIT, MCI, phthalates, and artifical colors! Not to mention, they have their own charity called HairToStay!

HairToStay is a nonprofit organization committed to raising awareness and financial aid for scalp cooling technology, a treatment which can prevent hair loss during chemotherapy. Founded in 2016, HairToStay began with a mission of building a nationwide subsidy program for scalp cooling technology, supported by partnerships with both philanthropic and commercial organizations. Recently granted FDA Clearance, scalp cooling is not covered by most insurance providers and thus inaccessible for many undergoing treatment. HairToStay has raised over $1.5 million dollars since its inception, and has awarded subsidies to over 900 patients nationally. The organization works to broaden the understanding and accessibility of scalp-cooling treatments in the US. Though used throughout Europe and across the globe for close to two decades, this technology was largely unavailable and unknown in the US, until the FDA Clearance in December 2015.

So if we haven’t convinced you how awesome amika is yet, we don’t know what else to say except to come into our salon today to check out their products! We promise you won’t regret it!
